A Sisters Strive for Victory (Rose Park)
By: Ethan Fouks

The park was small perhaps the length and with I a small house. Squeezed in where a couple small tennis, courts some swings, slides, and monkey bars that took up the space that was now further crowded by fifteen high school age students. Surrounding the park was a neighborhood of almost identical houses all composed of red bricks, the same bricks were also used to make the sidewalk giving the whole surrounding area a sort of red glow that surrounded us as well as the stories and park near by.  The walk to the Georgetown University was not a very long one but it took us down several blocks of the faint red houses and the red brick floors, the lead us to a remarkable building resembling a large chapel with stain glass windows, statues, and a large cross adjourning the peak.

To think that this is a cite that experienced an incredible moment in history is hard to imagine. Yet it was there were the first ever colored sister tennis team to play professional tennis learned and honed there skills to become ,master of the sport winning trophy after trophy during their career. They learned tennis there in the shadow of the near by Georgetown university, and they learned  while the faced tremendous discrimination and were not turned around. They are truly an inspiration to the next generation to not give up regardless of race, ethnicity,or religion and to always follow your dreams down the road they take you.
