MLK Monument

Caroline- Sydney- Manny

The king once said “out of the mountain of despair. A stone of hope.” The saying of the king is used to be reflect life in present day as well. This is stating that even with all the troubles in the world, hope is priority. The statue created in August 11 opened for the people has a purpose for its location. The mountain is made in front of sculpted mountains to show power and determination. That monument extremely close to one of the most famous presidents in the United States shows the equality and respect he has from the people of the United States. People from other countries come to the United States flattered to see the beautiful statue created to honor the man that shaped this world.

In all of Martin Luther’s speeches he had wanted a lot to change in the world. As my group and I visited the monument itself, we realized that the reason why Martin has talked about equality, and freedom, and education was because he had a dream that everyone will be equal. Martin was most known for his “I had a dream” speech because it states that it doesn’t take a lot to change the world. It’s  more about having an open mind and looking from different perspectives. Martin was well known for the freedom he has provided to different races through his speech. “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” These quotes show that although someone is a different race they still have the intelligence and good characteristics of someone else who maybe isn’t that particular race.

“True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice.”
It is not okay to be trapped in a world of mediocrity. It’s a depressing feeling. It is not simply okay to live in a world where people get by, but never actually achieve justice. “As long as they’re okay with it” is never okay. The world should shine with justice, under every rock; in each corner and each house. It should flow through a person’s veins.

The contour of the world and people’s thoughts molded to the powerful words that fell from his lips. They poured out into the water before him, evaporated into the clouds and fell upon the earth, getting absorbed into everyone’s skin. They took his words and applied to the world around them. They treated each other kinder as the years went by and became more tolerable and understanding of others.  Instead of shooting daggers at the different and unknown, their eyes softened, melting into small crinkles around the eyes and the upturning of the corner of their lips.image (4).jpeg
People started to embrace others, take them under their arms and squeeze a carrying amount of love into their bodies through the power of touch. More people started to hold hand; maybe not literally, but rather through their actions of support.
Martin Luther’s eyes stretch among the land and take in people who are different, starting to accept and love one another.
His eyes stay determined and hard as he looks out into the world, since he does not want to be caught by the walking people to see a tear streak down his face out of joy; as a statute's purpose is to stand still and let others admire their poise - whether it be a look of defeat and hurt or invigorating hope shown within his stately manure with his arms crossed before him. He is knows as the man who had a dream- and with the help of others, it has finally come true.

The stone he was built in showed how strong he is. He had carved a path within a rock which was defined impermeable by society until slowly with each crack made by his efforts finally split it in half. BUt it could not have been cracked simply from the brute force of his own hands, but rather from the many hands. Even small hands who were known to be weak and pitiful. All their efforts had helped out,no matter who they were.

Martin Luther King, Monument,
The statue of Martin Luther King with his hands crossed over shows that he is pleased with the progress of what his words are contributing to the community. Martin quotes “I have the audacity to believe that peoples everywhere can have three meals a daIMG_0361.JPGy for their bodies, education and culture for their minds, and dignity, equality, and freedom for their spirits.” (Norway 1961). I believe that in that quote, the three things he listed changed the world. Martin focused on three things when givings his speeches; freedom, segregation, and being equal. I have also noticed that behind Martin Luther statue it quoted “out of the stone mountain of despair a stone of hope.” This quote shows that if you work hard at something or have a strong belief for something there will be hope at the end. This also relates to when Martin Luther king climbed the mountain to show that nothing is more strong than doing something together it shows that there is more power and worth changing the rules for.

A Statue built behind a mountain has so much to say. A carved stone that is visited by millions of people every month has a purpose. A memorial dedicated to one person can generally be the most respect a person is given. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. which is the one of the civil rights activist that has a monument in America’s greatest city. Martin is honored daily by the expressions on people’s face when they see the statue, the smile in their face when they’re standing next to it. This statue can possibly be as important as the Abraham lincoln because without the mental strength of one gentleman, the nation wouldn’t be equal.

Standing where he stood to say a speech that impressed the whole world, a speech that surprised the whole nation, a speech that had half of the United States motivated that life was actually going to change is a right that no one should be able to get. In the lincoln memorial are MLK’s foot steps when he stood there during the “I have a Dream” speech. Through the people's eyes they saw a great brave men talking about what he wanted in this world but in their hearts they did not believe in him. They did not believe that one speech can make a change. In 1963 a change was made and until this day the change has remained.

1963 should be a year of glory. There should be more than monuments giving to the great and peaceful men. Through the people’s eyes they saw a crowd of people choosing to believe in  Martin Luther king but what was most important was what Martin Luther king was looking at. He was looking thousands of people supporting him on a hot summer day. He was looking at people that have hope in him and that powerful monument of the washington. That monument gave him pride and faith in the movement. His eyes were bright and he was not going to pass away in peace until his dream was not complete. An american dream was the total opposite of that Martin Luther king’s dream was.
