My eyes were lying on the clean water, reflecting the bright blue sky, the thick green trees, the tall washington monument and the Lincoln Memorial. The reflection made me realize that the moment has arrived to experience the United States of America. No matter where I turned my gaze everywhere a beautiful white building appeared to my site.
Curious as I could ever be what did the reflecting pool wanted to tell me? Was it only addressing the american people or it's audience was a lot diverse? All the memorials from wars pol aced in front of it evoked the thought I me that this place holds a lot more than what it shows.
Standing where the Martin Luther King delivered his "I have a dream" speech giving a new vision to a common american gave me a feeling that thus place was not only about history but it showed future to a nation. My shoulders were tired of carrying my bag, my back all sweaty with the burning sun but there were my eyes who wanted to look for more. They couldn't get enough from looking at the pathway which once gave platform to Marian Anderson when she was declined from all others.my mound was consumed in the thought of why Martin Luther king only chose this place for his speech? Why did only this place in whole country witnessed President Obamas " we are one " speech?
I had all these thoughts in my mind when I reached at giant pillars of the temple. All 36 columns represent the number of States present at the time of Abrahim Lincoln.the huge statue with firm expressions on his face looking straight at the capital city gained all my attention. I was reading the golden words engraved on the wall when a soft voice reached my ears. A mother was reading all those words to her son. Those words turned out to part of one the greatest speeches if president.
At both sides of those words sculptures of eagles were drawn, as eagles are symbolic to power in pakistan I wondered why they were drawn here? Why only these birds were chosen to be drawn? Why people got convinced at the idea that establishing a Greek temple will keep their leaders memories alive?
Every time I looked at the place I found different answers for my questions and again different questions were raised in my mind. What I know after looking at the history of the place and image of future it is portraying has led me to the conclusion that this place is symbolic to the unification of people. A reminder of the sacrifices being done in order to make people of this country cherish freedom and equal rights they enjoy today.
