“What I Learned From Writing in a Coffee Shop” Inspired by Busboys and Poets

I always wondered
what it would be like to
sit in a coffee shop and just write
what I was feeling down on paper.
It would surely feel much different than
sitting at home on my bed,
alone in my room,
listening to a writing playlist,
and typing out my thoughts
on my computer,
right?

Wrong.

Although I do feel creative
sitting in this coffee shop,
doing all these standard “coffee shop things”
that one does when writing there,
I realize that sometimes
I produce better work when I am
sitting at home on my bed,
alone in my room,
listening to a writing playlist,
and typing out my thoughts
on my computer.

From this, I learned
do not let your beliefs
of pretentious writer stereotypes
let you down
if you do not live up to them,
because sometimes,
we do produce our best work when we are
sitting at home on our beds,
alone in our rooms,
listening to a writing playlist,
and typing out our thoughts
on our computers.
