The Third President Memorial

Thomas Jefferson, native from Virginia, was born on April 13, 1743. Took him 26 years to be the third president of the United States: starting on the Second Continental Congress from Virginia in 1775. He was a proponent of democracy who showed the principles of Republicanism.

The Jefferson Memorial was located in Washington, DC on 1943 after four years of construction. John Russell Pope (Architect) gave four different designs and location to the Congress to pick, it was chosen to be at the Tidal Basin for the completion of the four-point plan; congress gave $3 million to the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts (CFA).

The stairs go up a rectangle and from there to a circle divided in eight pieces: four walls with in scripts and 4 exits. That first step and intimidation from the statue of Jefferson gets inside you, that 19ft statue of the third President of the United State of America. Has a posture that shows courage and leadership. Your heart feels joy.

You are amazed, but some people next to you don’t seem to care. Reading the in scripts, that are quotes of the Declaration of Independence. Patriotism kicks in and smiles come and go.
